Following the order of Calcutta High Court, a central fact-finding committee is set to visit Sandeshkhali on Sunday, led by former Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Justice L. Narsimha Reddy (Retd). The committee's objective is to investigate allegations of sexual harassment and land grabbing by suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan. Initially barred by police on February 25, the committee gained permission from a single-judge bench of Justice Kaushik Chanda on February 28.
According to CID sources, Shahjahan, the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali incidents, confessed to being present in the area during his 55-day absconding period. Meanwhile, a Left student wing delegation, led by Minakshi Mukherjee, was obstructed at Basirhat police station on Saturday, prompting Mukherjee to criticize police conduct and accuse them of favoring criminals over democratic activists.
